| Q.
My unlock code doesn¡¦t work (or I am receiving
a message that says I have an invalid unlock code).
A. Your unlock code is linked
to the e-mail address and name supplied during
purchasing and registration. You have to enter
all the information exactly as it is displayed
in that e-mail. If you¡¦re still having trouble,
try copying and pasting information from the e-mail
into the program. If you continue to have trouble,
please e-mail us your support information.
Q. We have changed our contact information
(e-mail address or mailing address). How do I
update my registration with this new information?
A. If you have a new e-mail or
mailing address, please e-mail
us with all of your prior contact information,
your new information, and the date you want the
new information to go into effect.
Q. What is your upgrade policy?
A. In order to protect your investment,
we allow you to upgrade free of charge to our
latest release if you have purchased the product
within three months of that release. We also provide
maintenance releases of our software at no cost
to you. (Note: Although VoyagerSoft has not charged
for upgrades in the past, we reserve the right
to do so in the future.)
You can receive your upgrade by clicking the
Download
link. (Note that even though you may see a message
saying it is the trial version, it is actually
the full version.) You just need to use your unlock
code to unlock it. If you have already unlocked
the product, you shouldn¡¦t have to unlock it again
after upgrade since the data is stored in the
system.
Q. What is included with my product license?
A. Before using our product you
agreed to abide by the terms of our product license
agreement. Our individual produce license allows
one user to install the product on two computers
as long as that user is the only user of the software.
(For example, you could install on your product
on a laptop and your home computer.)
Q. When I try to install Solid Converter
PDF, I get a message saying that I don't have
administrative privileges to install software.
Is there anything I can do?
A. Try this:
- Download either the executable or self-extracting
zip file (if any).
- Right-click the executable (.exe) file for
the program and select Run As....
- Click the Run button and complete the installation
process.
If you still cannot install the program, contact
your computer systems administrator.
Q. When I try to install the program,
I get an "Unable to load options file" message
A.You are seeing this message
because the MSXML parser either does not exist
or is not functioning on your computer. To correct
this problem:
- Download xml.zip
from our Web site.
- Unzip the file.
- Double-click msxml3sp1.exe to
install the XML parser. If you don't have a
XML parser on your machine this will install
it.
- Try running our program again.
If you still get the same error, then your XML
parser is damaged. Re-installing will NOT repair
it.
If that does not work, try this:
- Download RepairXML3.zip.
- Unzip RepairXML3.zip file and then, in Windows
Explorer, double-click the file to run it. You
should see a dialog box with the following:
"DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\system32\msxml3.dll
succeeded."
Q. Solid Converter PDF What are the differences
between reconstruction modes (conversion methods)?
A. In Solid Converter PDF you
can choose from five different reconstruction
modes, depending upon your needs:
- Flowing. Recovers page layout,
columns, formatting, and graphics, and preserves
text flow.
- Tables. Recovers page layout,
formatting, text flow, and graphics, but ignores
columns.
- Continuous. Does not retain
the exact layout of the document. Correctly
reconstructs the text order but will only recover
paragraph formatting, graphics, and text flow.
- Plain Text. Displays text
without any formatting or layout. This mode
will not recover formatting (characters or paragraphs)
or graphics but will recover text flow using
column and page layout analysis. (Note: You
must use the wizard when converting a PDF file
to plain text.)
- Exact. Uses Word text boxes
to ensure that the text and graphic layout in
the Word document is the same as the PDF file.
This mode should not be used if you need to
make lots of edits to the recovered content.
It is most useful for short artistic or brochure-like
documents.
Q. Do I need Adobe® Acrobat®
or Adobe® Reader® to use Solid Converter
PDF?
A. No. However, to view or download
PDF files you must have Adobe® Reader®
installed on your computer. The program is free,
and can be downloaded by clicking
here.
Q. Does Solid Converter PDF make changes
to my PDF file during the conversion process?
A. No, Solid Converter PDF will
not modify your PDF file. Solid Converter PDF
will try to maintain the layout of the PDF file
(depending upon your conversion option choices).
However, there can be slight differences in font
types and font sizes that are supported in PDF
but not supported or available in the program
to which you are trying to convert the file.
Q. Can I preserve my headers and footers
from the PDF file?
A. Headers and footers are turned
into text like other text objects on the page.
They are not formatted as Headers and Footers
in Word, although you can move them into the Header
and Footer area after the Word document is created.
Q. I get an error when I close Internet
Explorer. This error says something like, "The
instruction at '0x02723795 referenced memory at
'0x020aad58'. The memory could not be 'read'.
Click on OK to terminate the program." Is
this related to Solid Converter PDF?
A. Yes. You can solve this problem
simply by upgrading Solid Converter PDF to the
current version. There is no charge for this service.
Go to our download
page and click on the link to download our
latest version.
Q. I installed Solid Converter PDF, but do not
see the Open and Create PDF buttons in Word.
A. There are two possible reasons why the buttons
are not on your toolbar:
- You did not choose to Enable Macros when you
were installing the program. To correct that
problem, you must reinstall Solid Converter
PDF. See the Adding Solid Converter PDF to Word
tip for more information.
- Your Word SolidConverter template may have
been disabled. To reinstate it:
Open Word.
- Under the Tools menu, click on "Templates
and Add-Ins".
- Click the Templates tab.
- Under "Global templates and add-ins",
you should see SolidConverterPDF.dot. If
you do not:
- Click Add.
- Find the template and make sure it
it selected. (In Windows XP it will
probably be at C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP\SolidConverterPDF.dot
where username is your user name on
your computer).
- Click OK.
- Ensure the template is checked.
- Click OK.
- Restart Word.
Q. What does Solid Converter PDF do if
the PDF file is password-protected?
A. In order to convert the PDF
file to a Word document, you must have the password.
If you are being prompted to enter a password
while converting, the creator of the file has
restricted printing, copying, and/or editing of
the PDF by using security settings. We honor all
security settings in PDF files in accordance with
our license agreement with Adobe.
Q. I am either (a) trying to convert
a document and am getting a "no text"
warning, (b) trying to convert a scanned document
without success, or (c) converting a document
but it's only producing bitmap graphics instead
of editable text. What's wrong?
A. PDF files can be created in several
ways, such as:
- With Microsoft Office or other PC applications.
- By scanning pages and saving as PDF.
If your file conversion results in only bitmap images
of the pages and no text, your PDF file was probably
created from a scanned document. Since we do not
perform OCR (optical character recognition) to create
text from the bitmap images you may need to retype
the text. Sometimes scanned files can contain
both text and the bitmap images of the pages.
If this is the case you will see both in the Word
document - the image of the page, and the text
behind it. You can delete the bitmap of the page
if it is not needed.
Q. How do I update to the latest version
of Solid Converter PDF?
A.You can simply go
to our Download page to update to the latest
version. Click the link and follow the installation
instructions.
Once you have registered the product, you do
not need to enter the unlock code again. The unlock
code from your previous version will be automatically
entered.
Q. What are PDF Files?
A. Files with the extension .pdf
are in Portable Document Format. This format,
developed by Adobe Systems, Inc., is commonly
used to make documents and maps available online.
This format retains the original document formatting
for both viewing and printing on a variety of
platforms.
Q. What is Adobe (Acrobat) Reader?
A. Adobe® Reader® is software
designed for viewing of Adobe Portable Document
Format (PDF) files. You can download Adobe Reader
for free from Adobe's Web site.
Adobe Reader can be used to read Adobe Portable
Document Format (PDF) files on major hardware
and operating system platforms. Acrobat Reader
7.0 is the newest version of the Adobe Reader
software.
Q. Solid Converter PDF converts from
PDF to Word. Does it also convert from Word to
PDF?
A. Yes. When you install Solid Converter
PDF you have the option of installing our Microsoft
Word plug-in. After this plug-in is installed,
you can create PDFs from Word documents by either
clicking a Create PDF button on the toolbar or
selecting Create PDF from the File menu.
(Note: In order to install this plug-in, you
must select the Always trust content... checkbox
and the Enable Macros when the Security Warning
dialog box displays during product installation.)
